Ahmad Youssef Al Tal (13 March 1931 – 3 June 2022) was a Jordanian Academic, Cultural Attaché and Officer in the Royal Jordanian Army [1] [2]. His brother was Abdullah Tal and his cousins were Wasfi Tal, Said Tal & Hasan Tal.

Academic Qualifications

Ahmad Youssef Al Tal studied his High School Degree from Lincoln School, run by the American University in Cairo (AUC) in 1952. He graduated from the American University in Cairo in 1956 with Bachelor of Arts in political economy. Then He pursued his study the College of Arts and Science at American University of Beirut and Had Master of Arts in Educational Administration in 1972. While working in Pakistan as Cultural attachés at Embassy of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan he was awarded PhD degree from the University of Sindh in Pakistan in 1977.

His interest in Education led him to obtain diploma in the administration of higher education institution from the State University of New York and an excellence certificate in community colleges from the American Association of Community Colleges for Teacher Education. Then he was awarded a degree in leadership in Community Education from the National Center for Community Education in the city of Flint, state of Michigan in 1992, and in 1992 he was promoted to full professorship from University of Oklahoma from the Department of Higher Education and later in 2009 a second professorship was promoted to him from the Council of Deans of Al-Balqaʼ Applied University.

Career

Ahmad Al Tal began his career as officer in the Jordanian Armed Forces in 1946. Then he taught English language at Irbid High School from 1957 till 1962. He was assigned as governor at the Ministry of Interior in 1962 & 1963. He was also Director of Irbid High School in 1964. In 1966 he was an envoy to the American University in Beirut for a master's degree in Educational Administration. And because of his role in teaching English language he was appointed as a supervisor of the English Language curriculum in Irbid Governorate in 1967 the promoted to administrative supervisor in the Directorate of Education in Irbid Governorate 1968. in 1969 he was the director of Geber Ibn Hayyan High School in United Arab Emirates. After that he was assigned as Director of Education for Irbid province in 1973 and 1974. Al Tal was designated as Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of The Hashemite Kingdom in Pakistan form 1974 till 1979, and in Pakistan he was awarded his PhD degree from the University of Sindh in Pakistan in 1977. he was the director of the Rehabilitation and Educational Supervision (community colleges) in the Ministry of Education and the advisor to the Minister of Education. His role in Education in Jordan was huge, he published several books and research papers about developing education in Jordan, and from 1985 till 1988 he was the Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and a member in the council of Higher Education. In 1989 he was appointed as Member of the Council of Education Board at the University of Jordan. He was the first to establish several community colleges in Jordan and was the Chairman of the Curriculum Committee and Accreditation Committee and the Committee of examinations for community colleges at the Ministry of Higher Education from 1985 till 1988. Al Tal main field of research was teaching and education and he taught several subjects for Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees in many universities, he was a professor in Educational Administration and Higher Education Department at the University of Oklahoma in the United States in 1992. Then he was the Dean of Zarqa Private College, Dean of Hittien College and assistant professor in the Graduate School of Educational Studies at Amman Arab University for Graduate Studies from 2001 till 2006.

Publications

Al Tal worked for many years on research, he published several books and research papers in magazines and newspapers on cultural topics, Arab wars, democracy and the ideological conflict, and reform, his main interest was in education, culture and teaching in Jordan. Many of his publications and articles have been cited in many researches and books [3] [4]. Some of his published books and articles are listed below, he also participated in many educational and political conferences, seminars, and was hosted by Jordan Radio and Television Corporation and Al Jazeera Television in a series of programmes about the history of the Arabian and Islamic Culture.

Personal life

He was Married to Hyam Mismar, and they had two daughters and three sons, Lina, Bayan Tal, Hazem, Maher and Muhannad.

Accolades

In 1973, he was awarded the Order of Independence Medal from the late King Hussein Bin Talal.
