Ahmad Javaid (real name Javaid Ameer Usmani) (Urdu: احمد جاوید عثمانی) is an influential religious personality residing in Lahore, Pakistan. He is well known for his books and lectures on religious, philosophical, sufistic and literary topics. His grasp of western and eastern intellectual traditions and his well-rootedness in the islamic intellectual and spiritual traditions is considered rare and valuable by many. He is also an accomplished poet, and writes poetry in Urdu, Persian, and English. He spent most of his career in Iqbal Academy Pakistan.

Early Life

He was born on November 18, 1955 in a village known as Saiyed Sarawan near Allahabad city in the state Uttar Pradesh of India to Husain Ameer, in the home of his grandfather[1]. His grandfather Professor Ali Ameer was a renowned academician, who once held the post of secretary of Union Public Service Commission and was known to be the best English teacher of his time in that area[2]. His father, Ameer Usmani, was a teacher of English language as well. His family migrated to Pakistan in 1958 (when he was three) and settled in Karachi[1]. He spent most of his early life there.

Education and Intellectual Associations

Due to the influence of his grandfather, father, and mother (who had good literary tastes, as well), he became interested in literature very early on in his life. While in Karachi, he formed literary associations with noted literary figures like Saleem Ahmad, Saleem Ahmad, Raees Farogh, Muhib Aarfi, Zamir Ali Badayuni, and Qamar Jamil, among others. He also became close to an influential expert of Ilm e Kalaam Maulana Ayub Dehlavi, and to date he considers him to be the main religious influence on his personality. With Saleem Ahmad, he was also exposed to the thought of renowned literary critic Hasan Askari (writer). His thought and personality was to a large extent shaped by the thought of these three individuals.

Work Experience

He did a variety of jobs before joining Iqbal Academy in 1985, including pushing manual carts, motivator in Population Welfare Department. He also worked as a Purchase Officer in ACL for a while. He joined Iqbal Academy Pakistan as a Research Officer in 1985 and retired as a Director in 2015.
