Advitya Gemawat is a software developer and researcher specializing in Machine Learning, scalable systems for Machine Learning, and Responsible AI. He currently works at Microsoft Corporation, contributing to Azure AI Foundry as part of the Azure AI Platform organization.[3]
Early Life and Education
Advitya Gemawat was born in Jodhpur, India, and moved to the United States to pursue higher education. At the age of 17, he enrolled at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he majored in Data Science. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2021, ranking in the top 6% of his class.[4][5][6][7]
While at UCSD, Gemawat contributed to Project Cerebro, a layered data platform for scalable deep learning, under the guidance of Professor Arun Kumar. His research earned numerous accolades, including the 2021 ACM SIGMOD Student Research Abstract Competition and the Best Project Award through the HDSI Scholarship Program.[8][9][10][11][12]
Career
Gemawat joined Microsoft through the Microsoft AI Development Acceleration Program (MAIDAP). During his tenure, he has worked on projects across divisions including Azure Quality, Gray Systems Lab (GSL), Azure Edge & Platform, and Azure Machine Learning (AML).[4][3]
Some of his notable contributions at Microsoft include:
- Contributing efforts in LLM Evaluation Tooling for Azure AI Foundry.[3]
- Adding support for object detection models on Azure ML Studio’s Responsible AI Dashboard, released in Public Preview at Microsoft Build 2023.[13]
- Winning the Microsoft Global Hackathon Executive Challenge for his work on a Tensor Query Processor at GSL.[14][15]
- Prior to joining Microsoft, Gemawat interned at VMware, where his contributions to the Massively Parallel Automated Model Building for Deep Learning were integrated into Apache MADlib 1.18.0.[4][16]
