Advertising industry is the business comprises public relations and marketing firms, media services firms, and advertising agencies around the world. It is now mostly controlled by a small number of worldwide holding corporations, which are referred to as holding companies (WPP plc, Omnicom, Publicis Groupe, Interpublic and Dentsu). It is a multibillion-dollar enterprise that links producers and customers all around the world. Nonprofit groups and Fortune 500 corporations are represented in this field.

In 2014, the revenues of advertising agencies in the United States (which included more than 65,000 advertising enterprises with more than 248,000 people) were $166.8 billion. The total value of worldwide advertising sales in 2016 was $493 billion. According to estimates, digital ad revenues surpassed those of the television market for the first time in 2017.
