Ade Lipede Sr. is a retired English rugby union player known for his pace and versatility, particularly in the sevens format of the game. He represented clubs including Saracens Storm and Racing Club Academy, and was also selected as a reserve for Nigeria’s national rugby sevens team.
Early life and youth career
Lipede began playing rugby at a young age, eventually joining Tonbridge Juddians, where he came to national attention after scoring two tries in the club’s victory at the RFU National Under-17 Cup final in 2017.[1]
He later attended Whitgift School, known for its rugby pedigree, where he was among the school's standout rugby alumni.[2]
Club career
Lipede joined the Saracens junior academy, making his debut for the Saracens Storm development side in October 2017.[3]
He later became a prominent player for the Racing Club Academy, where his dynamic style of play and explosive speed earned him the nickname "Rocket Man".[4]
International career
In 2018, Lipede was selected for the England Academy Sevens squad for the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Series in Łódź, Poland, marking his debut in international competition.[5]
In 2023, he was listed as a non-traveling reserve for the Nigeria national rugby sevens team (the Black Stallions) ahead of the Africa Cup 7s Olympic qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe.[6][7]
Retirement
Lipede retired from competitive rugby in 2024. Despite not reaching the senior international level, his playing career was noted for its promise and contributions to both club and developmental national squads.
