Adem Karafili is an Australian business executive best known for senior leadership roles at vitamins brand Swisse Wellness, for serving on the board of ASX-listed spirits company Top Shelf International, and for chairing the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM). He also chaired the taskforce behind a proposed multi-city, regional bid for the Commonwealth Games in Victoria.[1][2][3]

Career

Karafili worked at Swisse Wellness in several senior roles, including Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. His departure as Managing Director was reported in December 2016 following the sale of a majority stake in Swisse to Biostime (H&H Group).[1][4]

In the spirits sector, Karafili was a co-founder and long-time director at Top Shelf International Holdings Ltd (ASX: TSI), the owner of NED Whisky, Grainshaker Vodka and an Australian agave project. He served as Executive Chairman before moving to an executive director role in 2023, amid a broader board reshuffle.[2] Primary market communications and ASX materials also record him as Executive Chairman prior to 2023.[5]

Karafili has also served with Hydration Pharmaceuticals Company Ltd (Hydralyte International) in North America, where he held board roles including chair; the company’s investor website records his tenure and cessation as chair in 2021, with subsequent non-executive roles.[6] The Australian business press has covered the company’s strategic review and sale process during his period of involvement.[7]

Other activities

Karafili is chair of the National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM).[8]

He chaired the taskforce promoting the 2030 “Greater Victoria” Commonwealth Games concept, a multi-city regional model later referenced in state materials and media.[3][9][10][11]

Education and qualifications

Public profiles list Karafili as a Certified Practising Accountant with a Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting.[12]
