Adekunle Adebiyi (born 4 November 1970) is a Nigerian business executive with a notable career in the telecommunications industry.[1] Currently, he serves as the Chief Commercial Officer at ITEX Integrated Services, a prominent technology company.[1] Prior to his role at ITEX Integrated Services, Adebiyi held the position of Chief Sales and Distribution Officer at MTN Nigeria, a major telecommunications provider in Nigeria.[2]

Adekunle Adebiyi is recognized for his contributions to the telecommunications sector, particularly in the realm of strategic leadership.[3] During his tenure at MTN Nigeria, he played a significant role in shaping the company's sales and distribution strategies, contributing to its standing as a key player in the Nigerian telecommunications market.[4][5]

Early life and education

Adekunle Adebiyi was born in Ilaro, a locality situated in the Egbado South region, which has since been renamed Yewa South, within the administrative capital of Ogun State, Nigeria.[6]

His educational journey commenced at Nawairudeen Primary School, where he faced the challenges typical of the region. Subsequently, he pursued his secondary education at two institutions in Ilaro, specifically Baptist High School and Anglican Grammar School.[6]

Adebiyi successfully completed his secondary education in 1985. He then enrolled at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife in 1986 and graduated in 1991.[6] In 2021, he obtained his executive MBA at the University of Benin (Nigeria).[6]

Career

In 1997, he was promoted to Area Sales Manager Pfizer, overseeing sales in several states.[7]

In 2007, Adebiyi joined Visafone, a new telecommunications company, as the director of sales for the Northern region of the country.[8] He remained with Visafone for five years until 2012, when he joined MTN Nigeria as the general manager of sales. In 2018, he was promoted to Chief Sales and Distribution Officer of MTN Nigeria.[9]

In 2022, Adebiyi left MTN Nigeria to join ITEX Integrated Services Ltd, a fintech and innovation center, as the Executive Director of Growth and Partnerships.[10][11]

Philanthropy

During the Ilaro-Oronna Festival in Ogun State, which occurred in December 2022, Adekunle Adebiyi initiated a scholarship program benefitting 30 students from various secondary schools in Ilaro,[12] within the Yewa South of Ogun State. The recipient schools comprised Anglican Grammar School, Baptist High School, Emmanuel Commercial High School, Egbado College, Itolu Community High School, and Oronna High School.[13]

This scholarship endeavor has been in operation for a duration of four years, indicating Adebiyi's enduring commitment to supporting education within Ogun State.[14]
