Àdégbóyègá Olukunle Aróhùnmolásè is a Nigerian-born multidisciplinary artist, art educator, researcher, and book illustrator based in the United States. He works primarily in painting and drawing, using unconventional materials like African, wax print fabric, enameled copper, hot glue and tufted rug with scholarly and studio interests centered on identity, migration, cultural heritage, and postcolonial discourse. He is an MFA graduate in Art and Design from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).[1]
Early life and education
Aróhùnmolásè earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine and Applied Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in 2005.[2]
He later pursued graduate studies in the United States, completing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Art and Design (Painting and Drawing) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville between 2023 and 2025.[3]
Career
Teaching and academic work
At Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Aróhùnmolásè served as a Teaching Assistant and Instructor of Record, teaching foundation studio courses including Drawing I and Visual Organization I.[4]
From 2016 to 2022, he was an Artist-in-Residence and Instructor at Picturesque Gallery & Institute of Fine Art in Akure, Nigeria, where he coordinated painting and sculpture programs and organized workshops and exhibitions.[5]
He previously served as Head of the Art & Design Department at Oxford Scholar Academy and taught art at Preston International School, integrating project-based and STEM-informed pedagogical approaches.[6]
Artistic practice
Aróhùnmolásè’s artistic practice examines themes of identity, displacement, memory, and cultural hybridity. His work often incorporates unconventional materials and draws from African visual traditions and postcolonial theory.[7]
His MFA thesis exhibition, Cartographies of Belonging: Identity and Heritage in Transit (2025), explored migration and cultural mapping through contemporary painting and mixed media.[8]

His scholarly work addresses postcolonial theory, African art, and STEAM education. He has published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings and academic repositories.[15]
Book illustration
Aróhùnmolásè has illustrated numerous literary works published in Nigeria, including children’s books and novels such as Folasade, The Magic Wine, and Nelly the Stubborn Goat.[16]
