Abraham Alexander is a Greek-born American singer-songwriter based in Fort Worth, Texas. His debut album, Sea/Sons, was released in 2023 by Dualtone Records.[1]

Early life and education

Alexander was born in Greece to Nigeria immigrant parents.[2] After experiencing racial tensions in school, his family moved to Texas when he was 11 years old.[2] Alexander's mother was killed by a drunk driver shortly after the family moved to Texas, and an adoptive family helped raise him through his teenage years.[3] Although both his parents were musicians, Alexander did not initially take to music, instead pursuing a sporting career in soccer.[3]

Alexander attended Texas Weslyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, where he played soccer until sidelined with an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). During his recovery, Alexander taught himself to play guitar by watching instructional videos on YouTube.[1]

Career

In 2014 Alexander provided backing vocals for Leon Bridges' album Coming Home, and Bridges invited Alexander to studio sessions with Bridges, Gary Clark, Jr. and John Baptiste.[4] Bridges encouraged Alexander to write and record his own music, and Alexander would later perform as an opener during Bridges' Gold-Diggers Sound tour.[5]

Alexander released his debut album, Sea/Sons, on April 14, 2022.[4] Containing collaborations with Mavis Staples and Gary Clark, Jr., the album explored personal topics, such as the death of Alexander's brother and the abuse he received at the hands of his father, as well as contemporary political events, such as the incarceration of Kalief Browder in Rikers Island in New York City.[3]

Also in 2023, Alexander went on tour, with performances scheduled at Bonnaroo Music Festival and the Newport Folk Festival.[2]
