Abhishek Tiwari (born 30 March 1968) is an Indian editorial cartoonist and journalist. As of 2024, he serves as Deputy Editor at the Hindi-language daily newspaper Rajasthan Patrika. Tiwari's work has appeared in several Indian publications since the mid-1980s, covering political and social themes through visual satire.[1]
Early life and education
Tiwari was born on 30 March 1968 in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his postgraduate studies in Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology at Jiwaji University in Gwalior.[1]
Career
Tiwari’s first published cartoon appeared in the Hindi daily Aacharan in 1985. He began working professionally as a staff cartoonist at the same publication in 1989. Between 1991 and 1996, he worked for the Gwalior and Indore editions of Dainik Bhaskar.[1]
From 1996 to 1997, he was associated with Dainik Hindustan in Lucknow. He later joined the Jaipur edition of Dainik Bhaskar before moving to Rajasthan Patrika in 1998, where he has remained since.[1]
Recognition
Tiwari has received several honors and awards during his career:
- Manak Alankaran Award (2023), for contributions to editorial cartooning.[2]
- Kulish Smriti Shriphal Journalism Award (2020), awarded for journalism excellence.[3]
- Recognized on the occasion of Narada Jayanti in the field of journalism (2019).[4]
- Invited as a speaker at events such as Talk Journalism (2018)[5] and the Children Literature Festival in Bikaner.[6]
- In 2024, he was among six individuals honored in memory of artist Brijmohan Gupta for their contributions to visual and cultural arts.[7]
