Alhaji Abdussalam Abdulkarim, popularly known as A. A. Zaura (born February 7, 1977), is a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist, and politician. He contested the Kano Central senatorial election in 2023 as a candidate of the All Progressive Congress.[1][2][3][4]

Early Life and Education

A. A. Zaura, born in Dakata, Nassarawa Local Government, hails from Zaura Babba in Ungogo Local Government, Kano State. He completed his primary education in Zaura Babba and pursued his secondary education at Government Technical College Bagauda in Kano (city)|Kano City. Zaura furthered his studies in political science at Baze University in Abuja.[1][5]

Business

Prior to venturing into politics, A. A. Zaura dedicated his efforts to business endeavors. His primary focus revolved around oil and gas-related matters. As the CEO of Zaura Energy Limited, an oil and gas company based in Kano, Nigeria, Zaura played a key role in its operations and management.[6] Additionally, A. A. Zaura holds the position of Managing Director at Plambeck Emirates Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas company operating in Nigeria. Plambeck Emirates Nigeria Limited has its headquarters in Germany, showcasing its international presence. Furthermore, Zaura serves as the Managing Director of Sals Core Limited, a company specializing in car sales and rentals.[7]

In November 2022, a judge of the Federal High Court called for Zaura to be arraigned on charges of a $1.3 million fraud. The prosecution counsel told the court that the defendant Zaura was nowhere to be found for arraignment. The arraignment hearing was adjourned until 5 December.[8][9]

Political life

[10]Zaura ran for the 2019 Kano State Governorship election under the GPN (Green Party of Nigeria) party in the 2019 general elections [11] He ran for the Kano Central Senatorial position under the APC (All Progressives Congress) party in the 2019 general elections. [12][13][14][15][16][17] However, he was unsuccessful in his bid and lost to Rufa'i Hanga of the NNPP (New Nigeria People's Party).

In December 2022, Zaura's motorcar was attacked in Gayawa village, Kano State by unknown assailants, leaving 17 people injured.[18][19]
