Abdullah Snobar is the Executive Director of DMZ and the CEO of DMZ Ventures. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, DMZ helps startup founders build, validate, and scale into world-class companies. Under Snobar’s leadership, the incubator has expanded its global impact by establishing partnerships and satellite locations across North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia. To date, DMZ has helped 800+ startups raise $2.5 billion in capital and has fostered over 5,000 jobs.[1].

Education

Snobar holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, has an MBA and BComm degree from Toronto Metropolitan University and an executive certificate from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania’s Executive Education for Venture Capital.

Military Service

In 2003, Snobar joined the Canadian Armed Forces as an infantry soldier with the 4th Royal Canadian Regiment, 31st Brigade and was the youngest person in his unit[2].

Early Career

After graduating, Snobar began working for Toronto Metropolitan University full-time providing community relations and international development support for the Ted Rogers School School of Management.

In 2012, he founded a non-profit organization in Kenya, Supa Maasai Foundation – which aimed to improve the quality of living for the Maasai community, with a focus on women and youth. Snobar led efforts to build a women’s cooperative that hired over 150 women, encouraged fair trade and fair wages, and sold handmade beadwork to fund projects[2].

DMZ
In January 2014 Snobar took on the role of Director of Community and Business Development at DMZ, where he started DMZ’s Experts-in-Residence (EiR) program, built bridges for community engagement between incubators and accelerators nationally and internationally and set a strategic direction for building industry, government and international partnerships.

Snobar was appointed to Executive Director of DMZ in 2015 and is responsible for the strategic direction and continued growth of DMZ. Under his leadership as Executive Director, DMZ was named a top university-based incubator by UBI Global — the only Canadian incubator to have achieved the #1 ranking in its category to date[3] — and was awarded Canada's Most Admired Corporate Culture by Waterstone Human Capital[4].

His leadership has led to the expansion of DMZ programming services to new global markets, empowering partners to drive growth within their local startup ecosystems. Today, DMZ is a recognized player across the global tech landscape through its network of global offices and incubators in over 10 countries[5] including Japan[6], Egypt[7], the Caribbean[8], South Korea[9], the United Arab Emirates[10] and more.

Snobar also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of DMZ Ventures.
