Abdulla Elyas is a co-founder of Careem, a Dubai-based ride-hailing app that provides transportation services across the Middle East and North Africa. Born in Saudi Arabia in 1985, Elyas earned a degree in computer engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. After graduation, he worked as a software engineer for companies such as IBM and Oracle before starting his own tech consulting firm.[1][2]

In 2012, Elyas and fellow entrepreneur Mudassir Sheikha co-founded Careem with the goal of creating a reliable and affordable transportation option for people in the Middle East. The app quickly gained popularity, and within a few years, Careem had expanded to multiple countries, raised over $500 million in funding, and became a major competitor to Uber in the region.[3]

As Chief Architect of Careem, Elyas oversaw the development of the app's technology and infrastructure, playing a key role in the company's success. In 2019, Careem was acquired by Uber in a deal worth $3.1 billion, cementing its place as one of the most successful startups in the Middle East. Elyas continues to be involved in the tech industry as an advisor and investor, and is considered one of the region's most prominent tech entrepreneurs.[4][5]
