Abdel "Sosa" Russell (born January 19, 1977)[1] is an American record label executive (MVB Records), entrepreneur, talent manager, and author, He is the founder of MVB Entertainment LLC, and First.Finger Entertainment (FFE). Russell is known for managing one of YouTube and Jamaica's entertainment stars Trabass.[2]
Early Life and Education
Russell was born on January 19, 1977, in the United States. He attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn, New York, where he participated in football and track & field, graduating in 1995. After high school, Russell went on to study at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.
Career
Russell began his career in the entertainment industry as a party promoter in Brooklyn, New York, during the early 2000s. In 2005, he relocated to Orlando, Florida, where he incorporated his first company, MVB Entertainment LLC, marking his entry into the music and entertainment business.[3] A year later, in 2006, he officially launched his independent record label, MVB Records, which became one of the most prominent indie startup labels under his MVBEMG music division.
In 2013, MVB Records became the first independent record label to offer health insurance to its artist roster, a pioneering move in the industry. Russell has since expanded his business ventures, founding multiple companies across various sectors.
In May 2019, Russell founded First.Finger Entertainment (FFE), a talent management and media company. One of the company's most notable clients is Jamaican entertainer and YouTube star Trabass, whose 2016 album Trabulation reached number 8 on Billboard's Reggae Album chart. As a talent manager, Russell has played a significant role in the career of Trabass, helping to manage the entertainer’s success on both YouTube and in the music industry.
In 2021, Russell produced and directed a short film titled What Really Matters?, which was released through First.Finger Films, a division of FFE.
Russell is also a published author, having released three books: 9 Rules of a Serial Goal Digger (2015), Lazy Money - The Poor Man's Achilles Heel (2016), and Failing. To Succeed (2016).
Philanthropy and mentorship
Russell is an active philanthropist, dedicating his time and resources to inner-city youth. He mentors young individuals aspiring to careers in entrepreneurship and entertainment, offering guidance and support through various charitable initiatives.
He has shared his expertise by mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs and established businesspeople, particularly in partnership with the city of New York in 2016.
