Aashish Kiphayet (Bengali: আশিষ কিফায়েত; born 1992) is a Bangladeshi documentary photographer, audio-visual storyteller, and opinion article writer[1] based in Washington, D.C. He is a photojournalist at Zuma Press. Aashish works on themes of public health, social justice, and civil rights. His work has been featured in prestigious outlets, magazines, and newspapers.[2][3][4][5]

Career

Aashish started journalism at an early age. From 2015 to 2017, he worked as a broadcast journalist at Radio Dhoni, Dhaka, Bangladesh. From 2017 to 2021, he was employed as a broadcast journalist at Channel 24, based in Dhaka. In 2023, he joined Zuma Press and has been working as a photojournalist based in Washington, DC. His work has been featured in the Washington Post,[6] The Times,[7] Bloomberg News,[8] The Guardian,[9][10] The Nation,[11] and The Hill.[12]

Background and education

Aashish Kiphayet was born in Lakshmipur, Bangladesh. He earned a bachelor’s and a master’s in Mass Communication & Journalism from Jagannath University in Dhaka. Later, he moved to the U.S., and in 2025 completed a master’s in new media photojournalism from Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University.[13][14][15]

Media coverage has described the film Amad’s Dream as “one of the first cinematic works to comprehensively document the Bangladeshi diaspora’s involvement in the July Uprising,” 2024.[21] Amad's Dream is also widely cited in educational materials in Bangladesh.[31]
