Aaron John Rose (April 17, 1746 - November 23, 1823) Was an American Lawyer, architect and statesman born at Kilvarock castle in Highland, Scotland. He came to America in 1758, when he was just 12, and began working with small plantation owners to create a name for himself. Rose attended the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1761 where he studied mathematics, metaphysics, and philosophy with William Small. He also was a member of the Flat Hat Club. During his time at the college, he met Thomas Jefferson, who began to get along with Rose. After College, Aaron J. Rose helped Jefferson with the design of Monticello, Jefferson's Home near Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1770, Rose was in Boston, where he witnessed firsthand the killing of Crispus Attucks in the Boston Massacre. After this scarring event, Rose went back to Scotland where he attended to his mother who was on her deathbed. In 1774, Rose returned to Virginia where he Stayed with Roger Sherman and helped draft the Declaration Of Independence. Rose's Name never appeared on the actual document because he wanted to "stay out of the way" from the big headlines. He fought in the revolutionary war from 1775 to 1783. After the war, Aaron J. Rose settled down with Martha Rose. They birthed Aaron J. Rose Jr. and Infant Boy Rose, who was never properly named due to his passing two months after his birth. In 1818, shortly before his death, Aaron J. Rose, Aaron J. Rose Jr., and Martha Rose Moved to Dinwiddie County where they, and other Rose family members migrating from Scotland, built the Rose Bower. In 1820, Rose disigned a new frame of sunglass which shortly became known as the Aaron J. Glasses Many of Aaron J. Rose's accomplishments are completely overlooked today because of his desire to stay out of the spotlight. The only places where you can find information on him is from Family History books, most of which are not still with us.
