Aaron Frazer (born 1991) is an American singer, drummer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the co-lead vocalist and drummer of the soul revival band Durand Jones & The Indications, as well as for his solo work that blends soul, R&B, gospel, hip-hop, and psychedelic influences. History
Early life and education
Aaron Frazer was born in 1991 in Baltimore, Maryland. He began playing drums at the age of nine and was exposed to a wide range of musical styles growing up, including soul, gospel, classic rock, and hip-hop. As a teenager, he began experimenting with beat-making and music production, developing an early interest in rhythm and arrangement. [2]
Frazer later attended Indiana University Bloomington, where he studied sound engineering. During his time at the university, he met fellow musicians Durand Jones, Blake Rhein, and Michael Montgomery. [3]
Durand Jones & The Indications
In 2012, Frazer co-founded Durand Jones & The Indications while studying at Indiana University. The band became associated with the modern soul revival movement, known for combining vintage soul influences with contemporary songwriting and production. [4]
Frazer serves as both the band’s drummer and a co-lead vocalist, and is recognized for his distinctive falsetto vocal style. With the group, he has contributed to several studio albums, including Durand Jones & The Indications (2016), American Love Call (2019), Private Space (2021), and Flowers (2025). Alongside his work with Durand Jones & The Indications, Frazer began pursuing a solo career in 2020. His debut solo album, Introducing…, was released in January 2021 on Dead Oceans and Easy Eye Sound. Produced by Dan Auerbach, The album drew from classic soul and R&B traditions while incorporating strong lyrical themes. Frazer released his second solo album, Into The Blue, in 2024. The album, co-produced with Alex Goose, marked an expansion of his musical style, incorporating elements of psychedelic soul, disco, gospel, and hip-hop. He explored themes of heartbreak, vulnerability, and personal growth. Frazer embarked on an expansive tour across the US, UK, and Europe in support of the album, selling out venues like the Bowery Ballroom.[8]
