A.S.D. A. Toma Maglie, formerly U.S. A. Toma Maglie and U.S. A. Toma, usually referred as Toma Maglie, is an italian football club based in Maglie, Apulia. Founded in 1944, its best result was the victory of the 1951-1952 Serie C championship and the third place in the final stages for promotion in Serie B. Toma Maglie partecipated in 4 Serie C championships, 28 Serie D and 16 Eccellenza Pugliese, the fifth level of italian football.
History
In the early 1940s there were several non-professional football teams in Maglie, named like some districts of the city: "Zone", "Santi Medici", "Policarita", "Stazione" and many others. On 23 september 1944 four of the most important teams merged, giving life to U.S. A. Toma Maglie football club.[1] Antonio Toma was the name of a young man from Maglie who perished in World War II, whom the team is dedicated.
