Alexander A. Simmons Jr., also known as A. A. Simmons Jr., is a multi-talented African American artist. They are known for his work as a writer, director, producer, and performer. They were born in Conway, S.C., and developed a passion for the arts from a young age. They began their career as a writer, penning short stories, essays, and plays. Their first story, A Boy Who Didn’t Know How To Play, paved the way for his future published works. Releasing I, The Darker Brother (2018), Human (2019), and The Book of Griot (2020), with his most recent publication Whispers After Midnight.

In 2020, Their transition into filmmaking began with their directing, and producing Beautiful Misery, which placed Top 16 in the Campus Movie Fest Festival. Producing The Dark (2023), with the release of his third film Lilly on March 22nd of 2024.

In addition to their work in film, Simmons was also a talented performer. He appeared in several stage productions, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Their performances were known for their emotional depth and nuanced delivery. They first appeared in Little Shop of Horrors as Mr. Mushnik during his sophomore year at Timberland High School and would go on to appear as Frank-N-Furter in Francis Marion University’s 2022 fall production of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
