Željko Krušlin "Kruška (born in Gradina, Croatia, April 3, 1956.) is a famous Croatian composer, songwriter and singer of popular and Latin music. He is best known by his work within the band "Latino" which he founded and is the frontman of. Željko Krušlin Kruška is married to a renowned Croatian journalist, Ivana Radaljac Krušlin. He is the father of a professional basketball player and a member of the Croatian national team Filip Krušlin he also has a daughter Edita Krušlin, who is currently a university student.

Biography

After spending his childhood in Bežanec castle, in 1973. he moved to Zagreb where he finished high school and graduated from the University of Zagreb. In 1975. he won the competition for amateur singers and won the Zlatni grb grada Zagreba.

After that, he has played music for many years in Zagreb's clubs, taverns, restaurants and as a street musician in many European cities. In 1978. he wrote his greatest hit Divno je biti nekome nešto and toured publishing houses offering material for his debut, but he did not find understanding in producers. In 1980., however, he recorded his first single Pasaž, released by the publishing house Suzy, and his real career begins in 1993. with the release of the album Divno je biti nekome nešto by the publishing house Odema. In the meantime, he performes continuously for years at the prestigious Zagreb club Sokol with his group Latino, founded in 1985., at the popular Latino Parties every Saturday.

Year 1995. was the most important year for Kruška and Latino, because that year was the first one that a series of concerts at Zagreb's Šalata happened, in front of 10 000 visitors with a live broadcast on Hrvatska radiotelevizija. In the same year, the album Gdje je ljubav tu si ti was released, with which the group Latino definitely confirmed its status on the Croatian pop scene. In 1996., again with his band Latino, he filled Zagreb's Šalata with 10,000 visitors for two days in a row. They repeated the iconic concert again 2005.

Željko Krušlin is a permanent member of the Croatian Society of Composers and the Croatian Music Union, and has the status of a freelance artist in the period from 2001 to 2005. Željko Krušlin Kruška, in addition to writing music and songs, and partly arrangements, for himself and the group Latino, writes a lot of music for other performers as well. Željko Krušlin is the author of the anthem of the Football Club Croatia (NK Dinamo), the anthem for the World Men's Handball Championship for the Men's National team of the Republic of Croatia and the anthem for the Women's handball National team of the Croatia.

Humanitarian work

In 1998, group Latino embarked on the first humanitarian tour Vašem gradu na dar touring about 20 Croatian cities and filling sports halls and stadiums with concerts. Revenue from ticket sales from the tour was used to finance or co-finance the construction and remodeling of kindergartens, schools, churches or other public content of interest to the local community. The best example is the co-financing of the post-war restoration of Vinkovci church bells. In addition, in the post-war period in Croatia, Željko Krušlin Kruška and his group Latino played over a hundred humanitarian concerts.

Within the organization Humane zvijezde Hrvatske, he played a series of football matches, the earnings of which were used in humanitarian purposes. He is the ambassador of the Hendi Ping League - association of table tennis players with disabilities and the association DAR - non-profit and non-governmental organization that supports gifted students in the Croatia and beyond.

Literature

He won the prestigue Zvonimir Golob literature award in 2020. for the most beautiful unpublished love song in Croatia for the song Romanca. In this way, he sided with previous winners such as Enes Kišević, Luka Paljetko, Mira Gavran, Zlatko Tomičić, Drago Štambuk and many more authors.

Awards

Željko Krušlin has been nominated for a Croatian award Porin (music award), given by professionals, in addition to that, he has also been nominated twice for the most prestigue Croatian award Večernjakova ruža (given by the audience). In the year 1996., he was named "the best composer of the year", and his band Latino "the best band of the year" by the choice of Pop Extra Magazine. With his song Ivančice, Ivana he has won and award for the most played song of Zagorska krijesnica festival. Željko Krušlin has also participated in the selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, in the Croatian contest Dora in 1995. with his song Ne kunem ljubav and than again in 2006. with the song Kunem se.

Painting and sport[edit]

Besides his long music career, Željko Krušlin Kruška is a successful painter who has had several solo exhibitions. He also has a rich sports career behind him; in his younger days, he played handball professionally for clubs RK INA from Sisak, RK Zagreb, RK Mladost, RK Borac and RK Jedinstvo.
