Žarko M. Tatić was a renowned Serbian architect born in the 19th century who worked in the first decades of the 20th century. His work defines the history of Serbian Medieval architecture in the country[1][2]and outside (Mount Athos)[3].

The fact that the history of art as a field of scholarship was late in developing among the Serbs -- its foundations were laid only on the eve of the First World War -- meant that art historians were the last to arrive on Mount Athos. Among the pioneers a place of honor is held by architect Žarko Tatić, who stayed there in 1923, when he made a detailed study of its medieval architecture. In the same year, the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences also decided to send an expedition to Mount Athos and Hilandar to study the architecture.[4]Tatić's results were first published in the newspaper Politika under the title Letter from the Holy Mountain, and subsequently included in his very popular and widely read book Tragom velike prošlosti (In Search of the Glorious Past) printed in belgrade in 1929,
