Ünal Çeviköz is a Turkish diplomat and politician who has served as the ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan, Iraq and the United Kingdom. He is also a member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and a deputy for Istanbul. He was born on 6 November 1952 in Istanbul. He graduated from Boğaziçi University with degrees in English Language and Literature and Political Science. He also has a master’s degree in International Relations from Brussels University.[1]

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978 and served in various posts at home and abroad, including Moscow, Bregenz, Sofia and NATO. He played an important role in the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia, and was involved in the preparation and signing of two protocols on the establishment of diplomatic relations and the normalization of relations between the two countries in Zurich on 10 October 2009.[1] He survived an assassination attempt in Baghdad in 2006.[1] He retired from his diplomatic career in 2014 and became a political advisor to CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Murat Karayalçın. He ran for parliament in the June 2015 general elections but was not nominated by CHP. He was elected as a CHP deputy for Istanbul in the November 2015 general elections and re-elected in the June 2018 general elections.[2]

He is married to Emel Çeviköz, who is also a retired diplomat, and has two children.[2]
