History

FoodServiceDirect.com was founded in the late 1990s by Hugh Jones in Virginia. The company was established with the aim to offer bulk food and supplies to restaurants via online ordering. Since its inception, FoodServiceDirect.com has been functioning as an e-commerce focused distributor.[17][18][19][20][21][22]

Unilever, a large corporation, also invested in the platform in 2018. The website has been updated multiple times since then, and the brand has been redesigned. Along with other investors, Unilever continues to support the platform. In addition, FoodServcieDirect.com also provides an alternative ordering for a variety of chain restaurants via its Partners store - a closed e-commerce site-specific to the chains enrolled into the platform.[23][24][25][26]

Products and services

FoodServiceDirect has over 250,000 SKUs, on its online catalog and is stocked with a variety of products such as comfort foods, environmentally friendly & disposable products, and other supplies. Some of the categories of these products are international food, janitorial supplies, dinnerware, health & personal care, and beverages, to name a few.[27][28][29][30]

Apart from that the platform also facilitates online ordering and sourcing of products via suppliers.[31][32][33][34][35]
