Faina Savenkova.[1] (born October 31 2008) is a young author from Lugansk, writing theatre plays, short stories and science fiction novels in Russian. She began to write in 2018 after she participated in a writing competition, whose winner could meet Andrey Usachev, the favourite author of Faina. Since then she learns and tries several types of writing from theatre plays to novels, and short texts about her life, children or animals.
Her favourite themes are children and war, living herself in the midst of the Donbass conflict. In 2021, she published a novel, co-written with an adult author, Alexander Kontorovich, “Those who stand behind your shoulder” ("Стоящие за твоим плечом" in Russian[2]), about children, cats, war, and the fight between good and evil.
Even if Faina writes in Russian, her texts are often translated in other languages, including English, French, Italian and Serb, and spread on many foreign websites.
Faina is a member of the LPR writers’ union, as well as a member of the International union of writers, in the Junior section. She participated in the DPR science fiction festival “Stars over the Donbass” twice, in 2019 and 2020[3], where she received a letter of gratitude from Denis Pushilin for her significant contribution to the development of cultural relations between the DPR and the Russian Federation in the field of literature.
For the Children's Day in 2021, Faina addressed the UN via a video[4] transmitted to the institution through the Russian Permanent Representation to the United Nations. In the video, Faina reminds the UN that the Donbass children also have the right to a real childhood[5]
In August 2021, Faina was added in the Mirotvorets website, as an enemy of Ukraine, and her personal data were published there. Faina wrote to the UN Secretary General[6] to ask for help of both the UN and the UNICEF in this case[7]. UNICEF Executive Director, Henrietta Fore, answered[8], and contacted the Ukrainian authorities to solve this situation, which infringed Faina's rights as a child. Following this, the Ukrainian Ombudsman, Liudmila Denisova, asked both the Ukrainian police and the SBU to take measures[9] and obtain suppression of children's data from the Mirotvorets website.
Education
Faina is still currently studying at the Lougansk School N°1, and she is also practising Taekwondo. Faina was two times LPR Taekwondo champion in their age and weight category.
