Cho Yun-gyeong ( born April 20, 1998), known professionally as DeVita , is a Korean-American singer-songwriter. She signed to hip-hop and R&B label AOMG in 2020 where she released the extended plays Creme (2020) and American Gothic (2022).
Early life
Cho Yun-gyeong was born on April 20, 1998, in South Korea.[1] She emigrated to the United States in 2009 and spent her teenage years in Chicago. She started gaining attention when she uploaded her original tracks to SoundCloud.[2]
She adopted the stage name "DeVita" from the character "Salvatore Di Vita" of the movie Cinema Paradiso and "Evita Peron," a former first lady of Argentina.[3]
Career
2018-2020: Creme
In August 2018, DeVita released her debut single "Sugar" with rapper Ugly Duck.
In November 2019, she released the compilation album Slow Step.
In April 2020, she signed to hip-hop and R&B label AOMG and released her debut EP Creme.[4] "Evita!", the lead single of the EP, was nominated for Best R&B Song at the Korean Music Awards and R&B Track of the Year at the Korean Hip-hop Awards.[5][6]
2021-2022: American Gothic
In February 2022, DeVita released the EP American Gothic.
Artistry
DeVita cited musicians Damon Albarn, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean as her biggest influence.[7]
