Bryan-David Scott (born July 26, 1969) is an American culinary expert, coffee connoisseur, and accomplished author with international acclaim in the field of coffee. He is recognized internationally as "The Coffee Chef" and is the Director of R&D and Chef de Cuisine at his eponymous business, Bryan-David Scott, where he curates exclusive private dining experiences and coffee tastings. Scott is also the founder of "Cup of Luxury," known for sourcing and delivering the finest single-origin coffees and blends from across the globe.[1]

Scott has made several appearances on television and online platforms, particularly private events associated with high-profile awards ceremonies like the Primetime Emmys, Grammys, and Oscars. He has also presented his culinary expertise at private dining experiences for celebrities such as Steve Aoki, Lil Flip, No Malice, and others.[2]

Scott has taken on the role of brand ambassador for several reputable brands, including KitchenAid, ioo Audio, and the American Juice Company, among others.[3]

Early life and education

Scott began his training at Le Petit Cafe in Kansas City, where he specialized in Mediterranean and American cuisine, focusing on sauté techniques. He served as a chef's apprentice under the guidance of Frank Barub and completed Levels I and II of his apprenticeship in 1987. During this time, his passion for Greek cuisine, sauté cooking, and gourmet foods emerged. However, his invitation to the James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour by Jeff Black deepened his passion for the culinary profession.

Career

Scott began as a championship boxer and later served in the police force. He transitioned to e-commerce as a furniture broker, but when the furniture industry declined in 2006, he shifted his focus to coffee. Scott dispelled the notion that Seattle's coffee market was saturated and began sourcing premium green coffee beans, cultivating relationships with growers long before "fair trade" gained prominence.[4]

North Star

Initially, he worked as a coffee broker, earning accolades from chefs and sommeliers for his coffee's quality. In 2006, he founded North Star, primarily selling coffee online. Additionally, North Star expanded by opening local cafes, some operated by the company and others through licensing arrangements.[5]

As Scott’s reputation grew among professional athletes, renowned chefs, celebrities, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, he became the official coffee partner of the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Sounders FC.[6]

Cup Of Luxury

In 2012, Scott founded "Cup of Luxury," an exclusive luxury coffee brand designed for direct-to-consumer sales and private memberships. The brand is dedicated to sourcing and delivering the world's finest coffee, emphasizing quality and craftsmanship.[7]

Cup of Luxury distinguishes itself by relentlessly pursuing perfection, subjecting its coffee to a strict 100-point rating system by a panel of 34 professionals from the wine, culinary, and coffee fields. Only those coffees that receive unanimous five-star ratings earn the coveted "Cup of Luxury" distinction.

Under Scott's leadership, Cup of Luxury offers a range of exceptional coffee blends, including the celebrated Black Label with dark chocolate, dark berry, and Spanish vanilla notes and the Paramount blend, noted for its complexity and richness. Each batch is custom-roasted to ensure maximum freshness. Cup of Luxury earned the title "Luxury Coffee Roaster of the Year" for three consecutive years, from 2015 to 2017. It was also the first American coffee company to consistently receive five-star ratings and a perfect 100-point score.

To maintain exclusivity, Scott introduced a limited-membership coffee club with just 1800 spots globally, priced at around $6000 annually. This approach caters to celebrities, chefs, and coffee connoisseurs seeking top-tier quality, demonstrating Scott's dedication to promoting authentic luxury coffee.[8]
