Yitzchok Yehoshua Heshel Friedman (born May 13, 1996), also known as the "yenuka" or fondly "shiyele", currently recognized as the Rebbe of the Sadigura dynasty despite his young age and the fact that he is only the fifth son to his father the previous Yisroel Moshe Friedman.

Opposition to Leadership

As his father Yisroel Moshe Friedman fell ill, it was expected that his oldest brother Mordechai Sholom Yosef Friedman (known as Meshi) and his father's right-hand man would succeed him as Sadigura Rebbe, as is customary in the Hasidic order of succession. However, as Yisroel Moshe Friedman was made aware that his son Yitzchok Yehoshua Heshel would be more suitable for this role than his older siblings, Yisroel Moshe Friedman appointed the fifth son as his successor, and wrote in his will that he was to be his sole heir, i.e., the only one to hold the title "Sadigura Rebbe". Naturally this caused a great uproar within the Sadigura Hasidim, some siding with Mordechai Sholom Yosef Friedman and his other siblings who were stripped of their privileges as well[1], claiming that the Rebbe was ill and not entirely aware of the consequences his unconventional will would have, and some defending the Rebbe's will to give shiyele the exclusive right to leadership in Sadigura, thereby leaving the others with no role[2]. Sarah, Yisroel Moshe Friedman wife, came out very strongly against this decision and denounced it claiming that her husband explicitly told her that the eldest son would succeed him as Rebbe, and even appeared on television to voice her opposition stating that her son was "sitting on his mother's blood"[3][4]. Although the controversy is still ongoing to this day, the majority of the Sadigura Hasidim accept Yitzchok Yehoshua Heshel as the Rebbe of Sadigura.
