Van Carlson is a 25-year risk mitigation expert for small to mid-sized companies. He is the founder and CEO of SRA 831(b) Admin, which oversees the administration of 831(b) plans for several hundred companies. In addition, he spearheads the education programs SRA provides for business owners and tax and financial professionals. He is also an active member of the Forbes Business Council.[1] USA Today published an article about Van's evolution towards becoming a nationally recognized risk mitigation expert and his subsequent founding of SRA 831(b) Admin during the great recession of 2008-2010.[2]
Early Career
Van was in the US coast guard. Was in the presidential honor guard with white house security clearance. After that he finished his 4 years at Cape Canaveral as part of the security for NASA launches.
Van's early career was marked by his service in the US Coast Guard from 1987 to 1991. During his time in the Coast Guard, he was part of the Presidential Honor Guard, which involved providing security for the White House. Van held a security clearance for this role, which allowed him to work closely with some of the most important people in the country. Following his service with the Presidential Honor Guard, Van was stationed at Cape Canaveral, where he was responsible for providing security for NASA launches. This was an important role that required him to be highly detail-oriented and able to work well under pressure. Throughout his early career, Van demonstrated a strong commitment to serving his country and protecting those around him.[3]

Van's degree in political science has provided him with a range of skills that he has applied in the business world, including critical thinking, research, analysis, and communication skills.
Professional Career
In 1999, Van entered the commercial insurance industry as a Farmers Insurance agent. During his 15-year tenure, he became Idaho's number one Farmers' agency, with over 6,000 commercial accounts. With dozens of businesses nationwide closing their doors every day during the recession that started in 2008, Van identified a risk mitigation solution in the 1986 Tax Reform Act when Congress added some additional language (subsection b) to section 831, opening the door for businesses large and small to mitigate risks by creating a tax-deferred rainy-day fund for future adverse, under or uninsured events.[4][5]
In 2009, Van founded SRA 831(b) Admin, a family-run business primarily focused on risk mitigation management for small business owners and entrepreneurs through implementing and managing 831(b) plans.[6]
