Stephen R. Carter is an American magazine editor and author, who is known for his contributions to Mormon studies and Mormon literature through his essays, religious non-fiction, comic books, short fiction, and horror fiction. He is the current Director of Publications and Editor of Sunstone Magazine[1], a position he has held since 2008[2]. Carter has received multiple AML Awards from the Association for Mormon Letters[3][4][5]. His work has also been cited in The Best American Series|The Best American Spiritual Writing 2006. While he was a student at Utah Valley University|Utah Valley State College, Carter worked as a journalist for various Utah-based newspapers before graduating with a degree in English and philosophy; he went on to study creative writing in graduate school in Fairbanks, Alaska[6]. Also while at Utah Valley State College, Carter worked as the personal assistant for Eugene England, who was also an important mentor for Carter[7][8]. Carter is a great-nephew of poet May Swenson[9] and of author Paul Swenson[10].
