Sasha Havlicek (born May 1975) is a British charity executive who currently serves as co-founder and chief executive officer of the Institute for Strategic Dialogue..[1]

Early life and education

Sasha Havlicek was born and raised in London, England. She is the granddaughter of Austrian sculptor Anna Mahler and great-granddaughter of Austrian composers Gustav and Alma Mahler. She received Bachelors and Masters degrees from the London School of Economics and a graduate diploma from Institut Detudes Politique (IEP) in Paris, France.

Career

Sasha began her career as a Senior Director at the EastWest Institute, where she headed the Centre for Border Cooperation[2], setting up field operations across the Balkans, Eastern Europe and Russia[3]. She also served on a Task Force of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe in the aftermath of the Balkan wars. In 2006, she co-founded the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) along with George Weidenfeld and has since served as the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer.

In her role at ISD, she has been a featured speaker at the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism[4] and Women in the World[5] in 2015, the Belgrade Security Forum in 2015 and 2016[6], the Aspen Ideas Festival in 2016[7], the Web Summit in 2017[8], the Global Summit on Homegrown Violent Extremism at the USC Price School of Public Policy in 2017[9], Friends of Europe's Debating Security Plus in 2018[10], the Skoll World Forum,[11] Globsec[12], and Trust in Journalism[13] conferences in 2020, the Council on Foreign Relations[14] and International Women's Forum in 2021[15], and the Defence Disrupted,[16] Metaverse Safety Week,[17] and Eradicate Hate Global Summit conferences in 2022[18]. She provided testimony to the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs in 2015 on women under ISIS captivity[19] and the Home Office Select Committee in 2019 on social media and disinformation[20]

Sasha is also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Coalition for Digital Safety[21], a board member for the Forum on Information & Democracy[22], a Scholar-in-Residence[23] at the Leaders in Light Institute, and a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations[24].
