Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles[1] is an upcoming Computer animation|CGI-animated fantasy television series created by Doug and Candie Langdale.[2] The show is loosely based on "Usagi Yojimbo" by Stan Sakai, more specifically on the 1993 graphic novel "Space Usagi". Unlike its source material where the comics takes place in the past, the show takes place in the future and it does not focus on the main character Miyamoto Usagi.

It will premiere on a yet to-be-determined date worldwide on Netflix.

Synopsis

The series takes place in the far future and will center on rabbit teenager Yuichi, who is the descendant of Miyamoto Usagi, and his group of eccentric companions.

Production

Announced in February 2018, it was announced that a CGI adaptation of the comics is in the works from Gaumont Animation.[3] In mid-July 2020, Gaumont announced that the series will be released worldwide exclusively on Netflix under the title Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles.[4] Production companies Atomic Monster Productions|Atomic Monster and Dark Horse Entertainment are also involved with the series, with Mumbai-based studio 88 Pictures handling the CGI animation. Ben Jones serves as producer and Khang Le as art director.

Doug and Candie Langdale will serve as show-runners as well as executive producers.[2]
