Dr Sabahat S. Azim is an Indian doctor-turned-social entrepreneur. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Glocal Healthcare Systems. Dr Azim is also an Ex-Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer having served the Government of India in various positions such as the Secretary to the Chief Minister, Director of IT, Joint Secretary Cabinet & Confidential, etc.

Dr Azim[1] is a member of the Airtel Customer Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Council of India Alliance - A Welcome Trust between the UK and the Government of India that focuses on R&D grants.

Education

Dr Sabahat has an MBBS degree from Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University. He is also an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad. Dr Sabahat completed his Indian Administrative Service training from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie (Batch 2000)

Career

Dr Azim quit his IAS job to become a social entrepreneur. He founded Glocal Healthcare Systems in 2010 to deliver affordable healthcare in rural areas[2] with the help of technology.[3] Under Dr Azim's leadership, Glocal Healthcare currently operates 12 multi-speciality hospitals, over 250 digital dispensaries and a large telemedicine network across several countries.

During the pandemic, Dr Azim[4] adapted Glocal to administer treatment to severe CoVID patients at subsidised prices and also provide free vaccination at its hospitals. He further innovated a new model of digital dispensaries called HellolyfCX to virtually deliver healthcare while keeping the health workers safe. It is currently operating in several Asian and African countries.

He is currently working on partnering with Governments, NGOs, Hospitals and other healthcare organisations to enable healthcare delivery at affordable prices.

  • Dr Sabahat’s innovation of HellolyfCX Digital Dispensary was awarded the Public Appreciation Award 2020 by UN Innovation at the Health Innovation Exchange HIEx2020 as the most innovative technology to meet the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations
  • He was recognised as an Indian rapporteur for Digital Health E-Health at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2009, at the ITU Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland.
