Rajendra Ranjan Chaturvedi
Rajendra Ranjan Chaturvedi(डॉ .राजेन्द्ररंजन चतुर्वेदी ) is a Hindi scholar of Folklore studies, Indology and Braj Bhasha literature in India. He was born on 13th November 1944 in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. He has been conferred Ph D degree in 1973 for his thesis on Rangeya Raghav and D Litt in 1987 for his work on Folklore studies by Agra university.He has authored and edited dozens of books & journals and hundreds of his research paper has been published in leading magazines & newspapers of India.
Dr. Chaturvedi was closely associated with Braj Sahitya Mandal[1] from his young age. Walking on the footsteps of legendary scholar, Journalist & MP Padma Bhushan Pt. Banarsidas Chaturvedi|Banarasidas Chaturvedi, he stresses the need of preserving oral traditions & literature of folk languages spoken in India and highlighted the need and importance of folk studies on various forums[2]. In his opinion, the word folkloristics doesn’t exactly mean लोकवार्ता and the word लोकवार्ता should accordingly be construed in Indian context & ambient. [3].
Working on the project “Dharti aur Beej” under the auspices of Janpad Sampada division of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts ("IGNCA"), he underlined the relationship of seed and earth in the oral tradition of Braj[4] and Principle of totality.[5] It was the first project in hindi in “Lok Parampara” published by IGNCA[6] He has just completed the project Rasdesh on “Kelimal” of Swami Haridas jee. Both volumes of Rasdesh[7] has been published by IGNCA in 2018[8]. Dr Rajendra Ranjan Chaturvedi is currently working on “Indian Folk Culture”, a research project under the auspices of IGNCA. He is a visiting professor for the certificate course on folkloristics initiated by IGNCA and also imparting knowledge via youtube and facebook.
Dr. Ranjan was associated with teaching profession at Mathura, Sasni and Panipat over the years until 2004, when he has retired from SD College, Panipat[9] affiliated to Kurukshetra University. During earlier years, he accompanied and assisted Shri Shiv Dutt Upadhyaya|Shiv Dutt Upadhyay (MP and PS to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru|Jawahar Lal Nehru).Akashvani (radio broadcaster)|Akashvaani has broadcasted several talks of Dr. Ranjan and he was nominated as member of Program Advisory Committee of All India Radio.
Dr Rajendra Ranjan had closely worked with legendry scholars Pt. Vidya Niwas Mishra and Smt.Smt. Kapila Vatsyayan Kapila Vatsyayan|Kapila Vatsyayan. Amongst Others, his literary work has been appreciated by Shri Sachchidananda Hirananda Vatsyayan Agyeya|agyey, Dr Karan Singh, Shri ShreeNarayan Chaturvedi, Shri Jainendra Jee, Dr Nagendra, Dr Prabhakar Machve, Shri Kamlesh Dutt Tripathi,Shri Indra Nath Chaudhury, Shri Ashok Vajpeyi and Dr Kireet Joshi.
Honors & Awards 1.Shreedhar Pathak Puraskarfor his contribution to Braj Literature by Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan in 1986. 2.Shri Hajari Prasad Dwivedi Puraskar by Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan in 1997 for his book "Dharti aur Beej". 3."Acharya Vidya Niwas Mishra Smriti Samman of 2021 for his book "Dharti aur Beej" [10].
