Oliyilakandy Abu also known as O. Abu, was a leading litterateur of Kerala.
Biography
He was born in Thalassery on 1st June 1916. After a stint of military service, he was back in Thalassery first as a journalist and then a full-time writer. His works vary from creative writings like poems, short stories, skits and dramas to translations of world-renowned works on religion, philosophy and mysticism. He was a literary historian, as his work "Arabi Malayalam Sahithya Charithram" is the foremost research and historical study of Arabi Malayalam literature, a neglected branch of Malayalam literature, until then.
O. Abu had on his credit more than forty books published at various times. He was a visionary who predicted the sad plight of society when deviated from traditions and culture. He was a bold reformer too, who strived to bring out social changes by fighting against evil customs and superstitions. He passed away at the age of 74, on 16th March 1980.[1]
