Nova Kai Scott (born 13 May 1997) is a British Anarchist Communist activist and military leader. They are the founder of Wakefield Anti-Fascist Network and are the commander-in-chief of the People's Defence Forces (PDF) militia (not to be confused with the unconnected HPG).[1] They are the worlds first LGBT (agender, bisexual) General Commander.[2]
They have attended many Anti-Fascist counter-protests in Wakefield, Leeds, Batley, Dewsbury, Manchester, London, and York pride, and have doxed hundreds of local Fascists on Facebook(who removed their page) and Twitter.[3]A Nazi attempted to stab them for being bisexual in the summer of 2016,[4] and a Fascist came to their house trying to kill them in January 2019 after their address was leaked to thousands of local Fascists.[5]They then proceeded to stalk Nova until mid-March 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown.[6]
Nova was sectioned in Fieldhead Hospital in February 2020 after punching their mother for encouraging their father and sister to assault them for standing up to Fascists who were harassing them because they felt they were putting their life at risk. Their father headbutted them at home after pointing out a guy in the Talbot pub who had multiple Nazi patches on his jacket, and their sister smashed a glass on their arm (which they had to go to hospital for) after saying they should be barred from all the pubs as Fascists were following them and it could cause trouble. They later apologised and many members of their family came to share Nova's political beliefs. They were falsely diagnosed with Delusional disorder as the doctors didn't believe the Fascists existed or were anywhere near the 30% they claimed (they based it on UKIP getting 20% of the Wakefield vote in 2015), even though their family called in every day to say they've witnessed everything. They were put in solitary confinement after educating one of the nurses about the sacrifice of the SDF martyrs in Syria when the nurse claimed they threatened to stab them, which Nova denies.[7] When the police arrived at their house they beat Nova up giving them a black eye, bruises all over their arms, and pushed them down the stairs. The police claimed that they had assaulted them and reached for a knife, something which Nova and the family members who witnessed it deny.[8]
Early life
Nova spent the first decade of their life in Normanton where they attended St. John The Baptist primary school, and later attended St. Wilfreds secondary school in Featherstone after they moved to Streethouse. They later attended Leeds City College at the technology campus where they studied software development, and then moved to Wakefield College where they moved on to IT and then A-levels and eventually dropped out due to disabilities (they also claimed they were discriminated against).
Nova has identified as an Anarchist since the age of 10 and claims to have radicalised thousands of people since they were a child.[9]
Thought
Nova was known to advocate for a govermment ran on Direct democracy through federated people's councils that would plan the economy alongside workers councils[10], with limited use of prisons for violent offenders (maintaining Prison abolition as a long-term goal),[11]and a gradual opening of borders rather than immediate as they believed 3rd world nations have to be developed first to prevent mass immigration from crippling both economies.[12]
They have advocated for necessities and some non-necessity industries to be ran as communist enterprises with the rest being ran as cooperatives in a Socialist stage before they can produce a surplus and be communised(something they said could be hastened by a stage of rationing) leading to the abolition of money, which they claimed would be difficult until other countries transition as we need trade (which could be aided with a transition from money to barter).[13] They also theorised that we would go through two stages of communism: Socialist communism and then full communism later as automation would abolish work.[14]They were heavily inspired by Rojava.
Most of Nova's ideas were posted on the social media platform Facebook where they outlined how they thought society functioned and how it could be improved[15] and proposed a first draft to a possible constitution.[16]
Controversy
Nova has advocated for an armed revolution that would include killing British soldiers and police but they maintain that doing so is in self-defence and that they need to be armed as the local Fascists are[17], stating that "If someone robs you at gunpoint you are allowed to shoot them" and that it is "war, not terrorism".[18] They claim that "revolution without arms is impossible" as "they will beat us, imprison us, and kill us", adding that they want to "murder, torture, and rape us" referring to the spycops bill[19]. They claim that "The Capitalists will never allow a peaceful democratic transition of power"[20] and that they must remain underground and hide their numbers as they will be "arrested for terrorism ... if they ever think we're a threat to their wealth and power".[21]
They have also defended the PKK claiming they are not terrorists as they don't "specifically target" civilians and that while some have committed acts of terrorism they have been "isolated acts and they should definitely be put on trial for their war crimes" adding that they are not systematic and comparing their civilian death count of 6,741 in over 40 years to the US airstrikes in Afghanistan that killed 4,500 in a single year. Nova claims that "They are defending themselves against genocide" and says that Nova themself "completely opposes terrorism as defined as killing civilians for political purposes", saying that anyone that commits terrorism or war crimes should "face trial and be imprisoned". They also controversially said they agree with the IRA's goals [22] but frequently opposes their methods referring to them as "terrorists" and saying "killing civilians is where I draw the line"[23]. They have highlighted the fact that Nelson Mandela was also called a terrorist for opposing apartheid and that he himself made a comparison between his and the Kurds struggles[24] and stated that "wanting a militia is hardly as extreme as wanting an army"[25].
Nova has also suggested an alliance with China for protection and free guns[26] and the Russian communist party as a state that wants to abolish itself is "superior to whatever Putin has going on" since they believe we could get them to abolish themselves with diplomacy which would be better than war, adding that they're "not their biggest fan"[27]. They have however consistently criticised China's Ulgyur camps[28] and their mass surveillence.[29]
They have been accused of including a child in the picture of a Fascist they exposed and of graffiti vandalism after they allegedly covered up swastikas, "dead Pakis", anti-Gypsy and anti-Polish graffiti and messages raising awareness of a local Labour member who was assaulted. They refuse to claim responsibility for the graffiti as "admitting to crimes online is stupid".[30]
Anti-Fascist activities
Nova has been confirmed to have attended at least 17 Anti-Fascist demonstrations and has been on the news multiple times, once without a mask in Batley but the BBC deleted the video. The one in London is pretty obvious to spot right at the front with the black flag. They have also provided behind-the-scenes security for Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn in Outwood and Diane Abbott in Batley.[31]
