Early Life & Education

Nikhil Gandhi was born on 23rd August, 1977, in Khar, Mumbai, India to Kanti A Gandhi & Meera Gandhi. He has a brother, Vikram Gandhi. He completed schooling from Sacred Heart Boys High School, Mumbai and then graduated with a bachelor’s degree in commerce as a Marketing Major from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. He obtained his master’s degree in commerce at Mumbai University in 2003. In 2012, he successfully a completed a course from Indian School of Business with a specialisation in brand management.

Career

Nikhil’s career has been an upward graph ever since his 1-year stint at Viacom 18|Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd. as an Account Manager. Post that, he spent 2 years and 5 months as the Regional Head at Bennett Coleman and Co. Ltd. (Times Group). In June 2007, he was appointed as the Business Head at UTV Motion Pictures|UTV[7], where he was a part of the leadership team along with Ronnie Screwvala & Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Vice President at The Walt Disney Company

In 2012, The Walt Disney Company acquired UTV Software Communications Ltd. After spending 5 years and 7 months at UTV, Nikhil Gandhi accepted a position that became his longest-serving employment till date - Vice President at The Walt Disney Company, India. It was at Disney that Nikhil produced his first web series ‘Girl & The City’[8] - starring Mithila Palkar. He later went on to produce another web series called ‘The Trip’ - starring Lisa Haydon, Shweta Tripathi, Mallika Dua & Sapna Pabbi. Both series were extremely successful & hosted on YouTube.

President & COO at the Times Network

After almost a decade of working with UTV-Disney, he moved to the Times Network as their President & COO[9]. He was in-charge of profitable monetization of their bouquet channels which included leading English news channel Times Now as well as ET Now & Mirror Now. In his stint at Times Network he built Zoom Studios, where he successfully produced many web-series & also re-christened the coveted Zoom Holi Bash[10] which saw live performances by Badshah (rapper)|Badshah & Katrina Kaif. He remained there for 2 years and 9 months before joining TikTok[11] as their Head of operations in India[12] in October 2019.

ByteDance-owned short-form video app TikTok announced on 18th October that it had appointed Nikhil Gandhi as its India head. Based out of Mumbai, Nikhil leads the development of TikTok's products and operations in the country[13]. As the Head of TikTok India[14], Mr. Gandhi focuses on inspiring creativity[15] among TikTok's users, while also working to make a broader positive impact in the country[16]. He prioritises key initiatives - such as #EduTok - that are aimed at benefiting the community at large[17].

Honors & Awards

During his career spanning 2 decades, Nikhil Gandhi has won many awards for his performance at work & also the web series he produced.
