Liu Shao Xi (劉劭希, October 25, 1964-) is a Taiwanese music composer, music producer, and Hakka-language singer, a native of Taichung, Taiwan. He produces Hakka language music, and his representative works include "Hip Hop Guest" (2001), "Wild Release Guest" (2002) and "Guests from Eight Directions" (2003). He was nominated for a total of 9 Golden Melody Awards, winning the Best Album Producer and Best Hakka Vocalist awards.[1] Unlike other Hakka composers, he uses the Tai Po accent Hakka language.

Early Life

Liu Shao Xi was born in Rao Ping County, Guangdong Province. The family moved to Dongshijiao in central Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty and switched from the original Rao Ping Hakka language to the Tai Po Hakka language.[2] His mother was a music teacher, but Liu Shao Xi did not complete his piano lessons as a child, and when he went north to study, he realized that music could alleviate the discomfort of his illness, so he gave up his nearly finished studies and devoted himself to music, becoming a pioneer in Taiwan in learning digital interfaces for musical instruments and researching electronic synthesizers, and then retired from the army in 1988, and began his career as a professional musician.[3]

Liu Shao Xi began to create Hakka music in the 1990s. In 1992, he completed the Hakka songs "When Long Time Ago", "Coffee House in San Francisco" and "Piao Sai Mui", but the market for Hakka pop songs was not promising, and no record company was willing to produce Hakka music. 1996, he traveled to Beijing to produce the second album of the rock singer Cheng Chun[4], which was very well received, and he has been asked to produce many hit songs of Chinese singers since. Since then, he has been invited to produce the hit songs of many Chinese singers.[5]

Hakka New Music Movement

Liu Shao Xi's long-delayed idea of a Hakka pop album was rekindled in 1996 when Ngan Chi-Wen was the first to release a Hakka album, and in 2001 Liu Shao Xi formed Sound Century Music Network with Xie Yu-Wei and friends, releasing his debut Hakka hip-hop album "Hip-Hop Hiker," shortlisted for the Best Dialectal Male Vocalist at that year's Golden Melody Awards.[6][7]

Liu Shao Xi founded Reverberation Music Studio in 2002 to produce and sell his own music. [8]2002 saw the release of his second Hakka hip-hop album, "Wild Hakka", which won the Best Hakka Vocalist and Best Album Producer at the Golden Melody Awards and was considered the biggest winner of the Golden Melody Awards that year.[7]

In 2003, Liu Shao Xi was recognized by the Golden Melody Awards, and many music producers were influenced by Liu Shao Xi's words at the Golden Melody Awards ceremony - "If you're a Hakka, you should jump down and make your own Hakka music ......". Hakka pop music is a popular music genre in the Hakka language.

Since then, Liu Shao Xi's Hakka music albums: "Gogo Taike" and "Palm Seal" in 2005, "Snow Wolfman" in 2006, and "Bluffing Captain" in 2008 have all been nominated for the Golden Melody Awards, with Gogo Taike winning the Golden Melody Award for Best Hakka Vocalist.

After several years of dedication to the new Hakka music movement, Liu Shao Xi believes that the middle-aged and middle-aged Hakka people in Taiwan will become the last generation of Hakka people who can speak Hakka fluently, and therefore published an article entitled "Please Give Hakka Musicians a Fair Stage" in Dadun Culture.[9]He then published an article in Dadun Culture, "Please Give Hakka Musicians a Fair Stage!", and used the song "The Last Show of the Last Generation of Hakka" to convey the helplessness of the gradual extinction of the Hakka language.

From 2007 to 2008, Liu Shao Xi produced and hosted the popular music program "Hakka Music Frenzy" on Hakka TV.
