Leucadendron sheilae
The Lokenberg Conebush (Leucadendron sheilae) is a flower-bearing shrub that belongs to the genus Leucadendron and forms part of the fynbos. The plant is native to the Western Cape where it occurs at Lokenberg in the Bokkeveld Mountains.
The shrub is small and dies after a fire but the seeds survive. The seeds are stored in a toll December 2021 on the female plant and only fall to the ground after a fire and are spread by rodents. The plant is unisexual and there are separate plants with male and female flowers, which are pollinated by the wind. The plant grows mainly in hard sandstone sand on level crests at altitudes of 800 - 8700 m.
In Afrikaans it is known as Lokenberg-tolbos.
