Gangem is a small village of 541 hectares in Ponda Tehsil in North Goa district, known and rated to have the best quality of life in India (based on the commission’s “12 Indicators”)[2] in the state of Goa, India.[3] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Gangem depends on PONDA, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[4] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, One tank, One tubewell, and Two handpumps. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - One river, Two canals and One spring. Gangem is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tap. Gangem's pin code is 403406[5], and village code is 00019700. The area of Gangem is segregated as 1.16 hectares irrigated area, 50.94 hectares unirrigated, the 54.25 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 15.32 hectare area not available for cultivation.

The village is connected with a single bus service. Gangem has Two banks and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Gangem is a census village in the district of North Goa, Goa. The village has a total population of 473 and has total administration over 112 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Scheduled caste counts for 10 (2.11%) males constitute 5 (1.06%) of the population and females 5 (1.06%).

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of PONDA and North Goa to sell cashew nuts and make their living.
