Englishman Edward Dean is an organist, harmoniumist, and Assistant Director of Music, Holy Trinity, Sloane Street.[1] He studied organ at the Royal College of Music with David Graham and Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer Choplin, Andrew Dewar at the American Cathedral, Paris and at Eastman School of Music. Prior to his appointment at Holy Trinity, Sloane Street he held posts at the American Cathedral, Paris and St Bride's, Fleet Street.[2]
He was educated at Lancing College and cites English tenor and notable Lancing alumnus Peter Pears as an influence. His academic work centres on the output of Peter Warlock and John Ireland, the latter of whom was also organist of Holy Trinity, Sloane Street. He is a member of the Peter Warlock Society. He has arranged Warlock's Capriol Suite and Five Folksong Preludes for organ, and produced an acclaimed arrangement of Benedicamus Domino of the same composer for SATB.
Engagements in 2020 include the US premiere of His Genuflections Musicks for organ, with organist and highchurchman Owen Reid, at the East Texas Pipe Organ Festival.[3] Its UK premiere was in 2018 at Westminster Cathedral.
In addition to his work as a performer, Edward has restored harmoniums for institutions including the British Broadcasting Corporation and The Eastman School of Music.
