Prior to his appointment at Holy Trinity, Sloane Street he held posts at the American Cathedral, Paris and St Bride's, Fleet Street.[2]

He was educated at Lancing College and cites English tenor and notable Lancing alumnus Peter Pears as an influence. His academic work centres on the output of Peter Warlock and John Ireland, the latter of whom was also organist of Holy Trinity, Sloane Street. He is a member of the Peter Warlock Society. He has arranged Warlock's Capriol Suite and Five Folksong Preludes for organ, and produced an acclaimed arrangement of Benedicamus Domino of the same composer for SATB.
