Hosted Regatta's

D.R.V. Euros organizes two major rowing events every year:

Knorrensteijn Memorial Regatta

The Knorrensteijn Memorial Regatta, also known as KMR, is a one-day regatta organized by Euros and attracts about 400 rowers. This is one of the first regattas in the academic year. It is also part of the NSRF autumn cup.[4]

Grolsch Euros Drienerlo Regatta

The Grolsch Euros Drienerlo Regatta, also known as GEDR or EDR, is a two-day rowing regatta.[5] This regatta is significantly larger than the KMR.[6] The GEDR is part of several NSRF competitions.[7]

History

In the early 1960s rowing was not yet possible in Enschede. In those years, the University of Twente was founded on the Drienerlo estate. On April 8, 1965 the Drienerlose Watersport Association Euros was founded.[8] In the early years, the club consisted almost entirely of competition rowers. Then, in the 1980s, club rowing was introduced to make the step up to competition rowing easier. In 1978, Euros (with about 40 competition rowers out of less than 70 members) received an award from the Royal Dutch Rowing Federation as the most successful senior club in the Netherlands.

In 1995 Euros won the Varsity, with Sjors van Iwaarden, Niels van Steenis, Joris Loefs and Arne van Eupen. Jeroen Webers steered the boat, the Barfleur. The team was coached by success coach Rutger Röell.[9] In 1996 Euroïd Niels van Steenis won gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta in the Holland Eight.[10]

Since 1999 the club is located in the University Watersports Complex of the University of Twente at the Auke Vleerstraat. In 2018, Euroïde Minke Holleboom finished second at the 2018 World Rowing U23 Championships in the W4x field.[11]
