Badriya Al Shamsi (Arabic: بدرية الشامسي) is an Emirati storyteller, novelist and poet specialized in Children's literature.
Biography
Badriya Al Shamsi is an Emirati storyteller, novelist and poet[1]. She has a bachelor’s degree in Information and computer science from Higher Colleges of Technology, and she is graduate of the media leadership program at Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government.
Career
Badriya’s career started in Dubai Media Corporation where she was the head of Information Technology Department[2]. Later, she joined the Community Development Authority team, and now she is Head of the Alternative Care Department at the Authority.
Her career in publishing started in 2014 after winning first place in a writing competition in the category of short story. Her winning short-story collection titled “Rainbow” targeted Young adult. The writing competition was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth.
The winning collection was followed by the release of her first story titled “The Flying Fish”, which introduces Safi, a fish that dreams of flying. Later she published “The Water is looking for a Color”, and “Origami Tea”[3], a story that takes place in a library and through the book, children learn about creative thinking and the Japanese art of folding paper known as “Origami”.
Through her participation in Dubai International Program for Writing affiliated with Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, she published her first novel “Other Selves”, which was supervised by author Najwa Barakat. In 2016, she released her story collection titled “A Very False Sense”. Later, she joined Dubai international Program for Writing in the category of Children book.
Badriya developed her own method to discover the creativity that lies within children, and she cooperated with numerous educational institutions to teach children creative writing[4]. Some of these institutions are the Ministry of Culture and Youth, Knowledge and Human Development Authority – Dubai, and Emirates Writers Union.

Awards
“The Ambitious Mirror” won first place in the 6th edition of the Short Story Competition organized by the Ministry of Community Development in 2014.
