Amod Bhattarai is a well-known Nepali author notable for his works of fiction; the short-story genre in particular. He was born in 1965 AD in Kathmandu, Nepal in a highly respectable and scholarly family. He lives in Kathmandu, Nepal, and also in Virginia, the USA.
Early Life and Education
He did his schooling from Adarsha Vidya Mandir [AVM], a leading school of his times and holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University Kathmandu. He is a recipient of Mahendra Vidya Bhusan [a Gold Medal from the State] for being the topper in Masters in Sociology by standing first in First Division from his batch.
He has been involved in creative writing right from his school days. His creative writing journey of sorts began with his involvement in fully hand-written weekly and bi-monthly posts in the school’s notice board and contributing to the school’s annual journal as an editor.
Work and Publications
As a writer, he co-edited a collection of articles for memoir Basudev Bhattarai: Smriti Grantha published in 1989 AD. [He co-edited this in collaboration with Jaydev Bhattarai.][1]
Khoj Ra Tippani - the collection of his research-oriented articles published in 1994 AD.
He has been involved with various Nepali periodicals and newspapers and has been publishing short stories in literary magazines since the 1980s. His stories have been collected into three books so far and have been well received by readers and critics alike.[2]

Apart from making his presence felt as a fiction writer during his early youth by contributing stories to leading literary Nepali journals, he has attained substantial acclaim as a writer of substance in the literary circles of Nepal in subsequent years. What is also noteworthy is: he has also been building his professional career alongside his literary pursuits.
He also has had a long and highly illustrious career in the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu. His outstanding performance during his professional career in US Embassy Kathmandu has been recognized with various awards.
Apart from this, he has also been involved in several organizations in his working career spanning more than 3 decades, such as Radio Nepal, Nepal Television, Nepal Red Cross Society, American Red Cross, Global Disaster Preparedness Center [preparecenter.org] and various national and international organizations as an independent consultant.[5]
