In 2008, Johnny Bacolas, began auditioning musicians to form an band which was to perform Mediterranean and Latin-style music and would perform live. From 2008 - 2015, Bacolas auditioned a number of musicians for the group, primarily seeking a lead guitarist. In 2012, guitarist, George Stevens, relocated to the Pacific Northwest from Anaheim, California. Stevens would frequently patronize a local restaurant bar in his neighborhood of Edmonds, Washington called, The Loft. After a while, Raptis invited Stevens to perform in his lounge on weekends. Soon after, Stevens put together a small three piece band called, The Gypsy Boys (the same name he was using in his California group), and The Gypsy Boys began performing sporadically on weekend nights at The Loft.
Bacolas started the band after listening to a band performing in a bar called The Gypsy Boys and the guitarist George Stevens. He invited him to form a band. The band was formed in June 2015, and began performing at local small bars and bistros. In 2017, The Rumba Kings released their debut album The Instrumental and Vocal Sessions, Vol. I. The double album was produced by Johnny Bacolas and mixed & mastered by Martin Feveyear. During the recording of both records, Bacolas traveled to Greece to produce music videos, as well as record new music for The Rumba Kings, working with several top-rated musicians. Filming for the music videos took place on location on the Greek islands, Mykonos, Santorini, as well as throughout the mainland of Greece. The Rumba Kings released their Latin single titled, Mirame, written by Horacio Alcantar (Lyrics), and George Stevens (Music), and produced by Johnny Bacolas in January 2020.
