Miguel Soeiro

Miguel Soeiro (born 16 July 1986) is an award-winning internationally known product designer, entrepreneur, and lecturer. He is the founder of the Design by Miguel Soeiro Studio, a design and consultancy firm based in Lisbon. Soeiro is also the president of AID - Design Driven Innovation Portuguese Association, creative director of Porventura, and coordinator of the product design course at the Lisbon School of Design and invited lecturer at IADE - Creative University in Lisbon.[1][2][3]

Soeiro has over a decade’s experience in the design industry and is recognized as a leading professional in this domain. During his career, Soeiro has worked for several renowned clients including Ligne Roset, Cinna, Zara Home, Viarco, Porventura, among others.[4]

Early life and education

Miguel was born on 16 July 1986 to Maria Manuela Brandão Flores Soeiro and Fernando Salvador Soeiro in Braga.

In 2004, Soeiro enrolled in the Escola Superior de Artes e Design, in Caldas da Rainha, where he did a four-year-long degree in industrial and product design. Soon after he graduated from this institute, Soeiro went to the Kuopion Muotoiluakatemia, Kuopio, in Finland where he finished his industrial design bachelor's degree.

In 2009, Soeiro enrolled in the ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics and Management, where he did his Post-graduation in Strategic Design and Innovation. A year later, he also did the academic year ( 1st year ) of a Design PhD. at FA.UTL - Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade de Lisboa.

Career

Soeiro started his career in 2007 as an intern designer at J. M. Carvalho Araújo Design e Architecture Studio. He worked for seven months at this firm operating in Portugal, during which Soeiro was responsible for participation and monitoring of all project design phases, regarding Industrial, Graphic, and Interior Design.[5]

In 2008, Soeiro became a Junior Product Designer at WAACS Design & Consultancy, where he worked for a year, working with several prolific clients such as Cadac, Velda, Sara Lee Corp, and others.[6]

In 2009, Soeiro started working at Marco Sousa Santos Design Studio as a product Designer. He worked for three years at this studio, during which he was responsible for the development of several projects for clients including Portugal Fashion, TAP, H3, CCB, and Ritz Club.[7][8]

Soeiro joined Branca Lisboa in 2011 as a production Designer. He worked for over a year at this role, during which he managed all the production and logistics related to the brand. In the same year, Soeiro also became a lecturer at ETIC, where he served for over four years teaching the Interior and Exterior Design course. In the same year, Soeiro became the coordinator of the Product Design course at the Lisbon School of Design, where he has been lecturing for the past decade.[9]

In 2012, Soeiro founded the Miguel Soeiro’s Design Studio that focuses on all fields of Design and Consultancy.[10]

In 2016, Soeiro started working at Porventura, as a creative director. In 2017, Soeiro became the vice president of AID - Design Driven Innovation Portuguese Association and after three years, was elected to the post of President. In 2020, he joined Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa and as a guest professor for a year along with hosting lectures at IADE - Creative University in Lisbon.[11]

Personal life

Soeiro is married to Maria Luísa Soeiro (since 2017) and they both have a son, Henrique Soeiro. He is fluent in Portuguese and English.
