Damen Priestley Dume (born December 2, 1984), professionally known as Duprie, is a Cameroonian singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur.[1][2] He is the co-founder and CEO of Damrex Records.[3][4] Duprie, a self-taught musical artist, who is best known for his songs that are inspired by a combination of his African heritage and passion for Neo soul specializes in the Afropop, Afro swing, and R&B genres.[5][6]

Early life and education

Duprie was born on December 2, 1984, in Kumba, a city in the Southwest region of Cameroon. During his secondary school education, Duprie discovered his passion for music. As he grew up, his interest in music became widely influenced by industry giants Michael Jackson and R. Kelly.

He participated in several talent competitions while at Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) and performed songs by the pop icon. He later moved to Buea and enrolled in Bilingual Grammar School (BGS). To pursue further education, Duprie moved to the United States, where he attended Brown University[7] and studied Geological Sciences.

Career

Duprie began his musical career while he was still in college by establishing Damrex Records with his friend Rex Mukete.[8] Damrex Records since its inception has been home to Duprie who is also affiliated to the label as a recording artist.[9] After working on multiple projects as a songwriter, Duprie decided to expand his talents to singing with the release of his debut single “Pull Up” in May 2021.[10] Within a few months following his debut as a recording artist, he released two more singles titled “Playboy” with Ghanaian artist Ahkan and “Le Ndem”,[11][12] produced by Cameroonian record producer PhillBill.[13][14]

Personal Life

Outside of music, Dupire is also passionate about community service and giving back to the community. His philanthropic venture, an NGO called Dume Foundation, is focused on healthcare advancement, community development, and environmental protection.[15]
